Superordinate goal – a goal that can’t be solved by one group alone. A superordinate goal is one that two or more groups must band together to achieve, thus creating a common in-group identity (i.e., the group that achieved this goal). A superordinate goal can minimize the dynamics outlined in social identity theory.
