Research Bite: Achievement Goal Orientation, Intrinsic Motivation, and Creativity

Because of its relationship to outputs such as intrinsic motivation, risk taking and response to failure, group process, and general and task-specific self-efficacy, achievement goal orientation has the potential to have an impact on creativity. Dweck and Leggett (1988) noted that in achievement situations, people pursue one of two types of goals: performance goals, which drive individuals to be concerned with displaying competence; and mastery goals, which drive individuals to be concerned with gaining competence (Dweck & Leggett, 1988).
