Buddy Bolden is known as one of the great jazz trumpeters of all time and was a major influence on early New Orleans jazz musicians. Eventually his health deteriorated and he went mad. I've heard varying accounts that this was the result of schizophrenia, syphilis, or severe alcohol abuse.
